021 - Taiwan Travelogue Day 3 (Part II)

Here's Part 2 of my Taiwan Travelogue Day 3! You can read Part 1 here!

While shopping around XMD, we bought Preso Tea! Surprisingly, we did not drink much bubble tea in Taiwan. Not as much as we expected, anyway. Before we went on the trip, we were both very excited over how we can drink bubble tea everyday, especially the hot ones. But I think we didn't even drink a hot bubble tea on the entire trip...

In a random building in XMD sellling toys at the basement.

Pondering about this Uniqlo coat in Singapore, pondering about this Uniqlo coat in Taiwan.

W's favorite shop, again. Hahaha

Oh hai sexy.

We finally left XMD!!!! Then we decided to go back to our hotel to change to some comfy wear (secretly an excuse for us to wear our newly bought clothes).

We cabbed down from our hotel to Shilin Night Market! Heard it changed from last time, now all the food stalls are mostly located in B1. Sucks that it was raining that night too...

Huge sausages are huge.

Smelly tofu, but I think not the best I've eaten. Then this!!! Fried milk sticks! Saw people writing about it online before arriving in Taiwan, I just HAD to try it. Calories, what are calories when you're in Taiwan!?

Happy girl with her milk stick. It was sweet, milk, fried, hot. Okay, bad description but do try it!

The famous black pepper bun!

So......the verdict.....It was okay, especially nice in a cold weather. The bun was piping hot, the inside was filled with minced meat, black pepper, chives and whatnot. Why is it a "must-try" by some blogs though?

Don't judge, I am a tourist! Hahaha

This very cute grandma was selling tutu kuehs in the middle of the street! Seems like her stall is quite popular.

W and I couldn't stop laughing at this scene. Firstly, we found the umbrella's design ridiculously ugly. Secondly, it looks like an oversized hat on that guy's head....

Oh yes, I am an attentive customer. Though I have totally no interest in his goods...

We settled down for supper at this popular food joint, which I think is famous for their affordable set meals, as recommended by W.

This is what we ordered, a hot pot plus a chicken cutlet with cheese. I think all these for less than SGD$10, maybe $7? Well, can't boast much about the taste of it though....

Shilin Night Market closes really early! Like 1AM? I thought it'd open till 3AM, at least on weekends.... In the end, this stall was one of the few that were still open as it was located at the main entrance. Lots of students/tourists were still prawning. We joined in the fun!!!! This is not normal prawning we get in Singapore. Instead, we have to use a hook hung on a thread, rolled around on a stick. Then you'd have to try to hook the prawns up. The tip is to try hooking the prawns by their tails. If the prawn struggles, your hook will drop off the thread. It is about SGD$4 for 7 tries. Pretty expensive cos we sucked at it. We caught 3 prawns (I think) with 14 tries, then asked the owner to release them because we felt bad.... The owners will actually put rock salt on them and BBQ the live prawns in front of you for your late night supper! Too bad when we returned those prawns, they ended up being BBQ-ed instead..... Sorry!

As we walked further down, it was a delight to find this stall still open...

It's my first time playing such a game.

It's kinda like a mix and match game, it has nothing to do with mahjong except that it makes use of pretty pink mahjong tiles. They have a template for you to match the tiles against, and if you match something you'll get to win something.... And of course, I didn't have much luck with this game. Haha!

We headed to the 7-11 nearby Shilin and bought some stuff back to drink/eat, while making friends with the really friendly guy cashier. He was telling us which were the best places to view the fireworks on the upcoming NYE.

Then, it was back to our hotel and good night for the day.... Taiwan Day 3 is over.
