034 - Let's go on a date~!

Two Saturdays ago, Woody and I had the chance to explore Kandahar Street! This street is known to house places like Maison Ikkoku and Tuckshop & Sundry Supplies. But! Our main target today was Dong Po Colonial Cafe. As usual, the newly opened cafe was filled with people. Why why, cafe hopping is Singaporean's favorite past time after all! We quickly found a small table at the outdoor area to settle down as we reached. With the crowd streaming in, I had high hopes that this traditional-like cafe will give me a blast from the past with its offerings!

W insisted on taking a photo of this uncle, because he thinks the uncle looks cute. This uncle was the one handling the beverages, and he did the drinks slowly....without rush.

Busy busy~

You can either order them ala carte, or by sets. Each set comes with either coffee or tea, sets D and E seem to be the most popular choices. Well, that's what we ordered too!

A selection of old school cakes, tarts and pastries.

They even have takeaway jars of different jams.

Here's what we ordered - Set D and E.

Optical box, 3-color cookie, long cup vanilla cake and strawberry buttercream cake.

Scones for W because scones have become very his kinda thing recently, paired with their apple aloe vera jam.

Coffee iz srs bizness.

What I think about Dong Po: The drinks were nicely made, the aroma and taste of both the coffee and tea hit the spot with us. The drinks were thick and strong in terms of flavour, just the way it should be for traditional coffee/tea! Woody mentioned that he'd go back for the drinks. However, the food was pretty disappointing because we felt that they were overpriced for the quantity and quality of it. For example, the long cup vanilla cake was $1.70. I think 70 cents seems more appropriate! As for the scones, W mentioned that they were too dry. I personally also felt that the jams could be thicker for a stronger texture. Though the food does give an old school kick, but I wouldn't go back simply for it. Overall, it's a good cafe for those searching for snacks with a hint of nostalgia.

Walked along Kandahar Street, there's always some time for #ootd. Can you tell we're in matchy matchy outfits? Hee.

As we walked, we stumbled upon....Rich & Good Cake Shop!! It's such a small and unassuming shop with the traditional blue decor... I have heard about their famous swiss roll cakes before and was really keen on trying it. Managed to convince Woody to purchase one, hehe :D

We ordered a durian swiss roll, but I really want to try their signature kaya one!! The durian one was really nice too since they use fresh durian in the roll and don't scrimp on the amount of ingredients used. The uncle customer before us bought 4 or 5 boxes at a go! I'd say the cakes are worth a return trip to Kandahar Street.

Walked to Haji Lane to check out This is Alley concept store.. Haji Lane is such a hipster location.

Then it was time for movie at town!!!

Watched Pain and Gain, which is a crime movie based on a true story that happened back in the 90's. 2 out of the 3 main partners in crime were eventually sentenced to death in the end. To be honest, I just thought that they were stupid enough to commit the crime in the first place, and then they were even more stupid to want to repeat the exact same crime. Tsk tsk, money is evil...

On a side note, our #ootd yet again. HAHAHA. K that's all for now! :)

xoxo
